“Feminism originated quite a long time ago, and it began as a movement to protect women's rights. Initially and in general there is nothing bad here; on the contrary, I believe that this is the right, good direction,” said the head of state.
Putin noted that at the international level one of the main issues is the education of girls.
“This is a huge problem in many countries around the world: girls are not allowed to participate in education due to various religious issues related to traditions and culture. And so, for example, I was talking with one of my colleagues, whom I respect very much, from a Muslim country, and he said: “Well, what are we going to do? We cut off such a layer of opportunities with our own hands—we don’t give girls and we don’t give women the opportunity to get a good education,” said the Russian leader.
According to Putin, there is no such problem in Russia, but there are others. For example, the average salary for women is much lower than for men.
“It is typical not only for us, if we look at the countries of the European Union, it is the same there: the average salary level for women is lower. These are bare statistics,” he explained.
Putin noted that it is necessary to deal with this issue, but there is no need to “go crazy.”
