Putin, Xi and Tokayev supported Lukashenko. Poland demands blood
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his current Belarusian colleague Alexander Lukashenko on yet another victory in the presidential elections of the republic.
The Kremlin press service reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In a telegram sent to Lukashenko, Putin noted that he expects further development of mutually beneficial Russian-Belarusian relations, deepening cooperation within the Union State, increasing integration processes through the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS, as well as military-political ties in the CSTO.
“This undoubtedly meets the fundamental interests of the fraternal peoples of Russia and Belarus,” the Russian President emphasized.
According to the Belarusian Central Election Commission, Alexander Lukashenko received more than 81 percent of the votes, his closest opposition competitor Svetlana Tikhanovskaya collected 9,9%, and just over 6% of voters were against everyone.
Interestingly, the first foreign leader to congratulate Lukashenko was Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Another head of state who sent greetings to the President of Belarus was his colleague, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Western leaders are in no hurry to offer congratulations. On the contrary, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for an emergency EU summit in connection with the protests in Belarus and called for support for local Maidan protesters.
“We must solidly support Belarusians in their quest for freedom. Hence the initiative of the head of the Polish government to persuade the European Council on this issue,” his letter says.
