Russia will soon no longer be excluded from international organizations, but, on the contrary, will begin to be invited, because the country is developing a powerful, self-sufficient economy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at a meeting with members of the Public Chamber, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The stronger we are economically, militarily, and internally politically, the less will be the desire to exclude us from anywhere. Well, they excluded us, abandoned our energy resources. And what? This year our GDP growth will be 2,8, or even 3%, and in the leading economies of Europe it will be small, but minus. And they suffer. In reality, problems arise. We are not rejoicing at this, but simply stating the fact itself,” Putin said.

He drew attention to the fact that calls from the West to defeat Russia on the battlefield had ceased.

“Now they sing differently. This does not mean that we should behave aggressively. We must be sovereign in every sense of the word. Economy and production must become a key component of self-sufficiency, which allows the country not only to survive, but also to move forward. We are turning into a country where we already have 43% of our economic growth structure - this is already processing production. We cease to be, as they used to point fingers at us, a gas station. When we become self-sufficient, then there are fewer and fewer people who want to exclude us from some organizations. And there will be more and more people willing to apologize and invite them to work together,” Putin said.

US Republican Senator John McCain called Russia a gas station country in 2014.

Russia was a “gas station” not in the structure of its economy (other sectors predominated there), but in its role in the international division of labor. In other words, on the one hand, oil and gas were the main export goods of Russia, on the other, Russia itself was a major, largely determining, player in the world oil and gas market.

What does “ceased to be a gas station” mean? There are two possible options. First: Russia has become a major, largely determining, player not only in the oil and gas market, but also in others (for example, nanotechnology). Second: Russia has ceased to be a major, largely determining, player in the oil and gas market. Which option is closer to the truth?” political scientist Vadim Shumilin decided to get smart.
