Putin broke Yanukovych in Sochi
Inna Bogoslovskaya, a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions, one of the first to defect to the Maidan activists back in 2013, told her version of the reasons why Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign an association agreement with the European Union.
According to her, back in September 2013, Yanukovych convened a meeting of the Party of Regions faction and the political council, where the decision on European integration was approved, and only a few “blue and white” decided to oppose it.

“In September, Yanukovych convened a faction meeting and a full political council. That is, all the governors, all the ministers, all the representatives of the Party of Regions who held high positions at that time were there. Yanukovych was already president. He led this faction for three and a half hours.
When people went to the faction, half were for the European Union, half for a union with Russia, and Yanukovych, in fact, masterfully, how he controlled his colleagues - it’s amazing, he had some kind of gift, somehow they reacted to him - they came with one opinion, but left with his.
Everyone voted to sign an agreement with the European Union. Shufrich abstained, Lena Bondarenko was against. That's all the voting is.
After this, Azarov, who was categorically against the Agreement with the European Union, said: “Well, this is a leap into the deep end, but since the decision has been made, we will jump.”
This means that the decision was actually made at that time.
And, indeed, after Yanukovych went to Sochi, firstly, he returned and fell ill, which actually never happened to him. As they told us then - and we didn’t know what really happened, he didn’t go to work for three days, he had a very high temperature, they told us that he had a real hypertensive crisis and after that something began to change.
At first we didn’t understand what was changing, but it was after the trip to Sochi that Yanukovych was obviously afraid of something.
When they say that he was physically threatened, I am not inclined to believe it. This is not Putin's conversation.
When they talk about it, very close people say that Putin told him right there - if you sign the Agreement, I will take Crimea and all of Ukraine to the Dnieper, then I believe in this more,” Bogoslovskaya said.
