Putin told Trump what he expects from Zelensky
The Kremlin expects the new Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to begin implementing the Minsk agreements, which provided for the beginning of the federalization of Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during a telephone conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump, which took place at the initiative of the United States.
“The situation in Ukraine was touched upon in the context of the recent presidential elections. Vladimir Putin emphasized that the new Kyiv leadership needs to take real steps to implement the Minsk agreements, which are of key importance for resolving the internal Ukrainian conflict,” the message says.
The conversation between Putin and Trump lasted an hour and a half. In addition to Ukraine, the topics of Venezuela, North Korea, etc. were touched upon.
“The conversation between Putin and Trump on all current topics of world politics on the eve of the meeting between Lavrov and Pompeo is a good sign. The US President has come out from under the pressure of the Mueller investigation and is ready for a new dialogue. A personal meeting between Putin and Trump in a month and a half at the G20 in Osaka, the possibility of which almost everyone was extremely skeptical about, has become very, very likely,” Kremlin pool journalist Dmitry Smirnov argues in his blog.
