Putin took a magnanimous step towards Ukraine
If Ukraine rejects Russia’s proposal to send UN peacekeepers to Donbass, we can hardly expect new steps towards it from Moscow.

About this in an interview BBC said the director of the Center for Political Conjuncture, Alexey Chesnakov, whom the Russian press calls close to the administration of the President of the Russian Federation.
“Putin took a magnanimous step and met the Ukrainian side halfway - he offered to deploy a UN unit to guard the OSCE mission in the area of the contact line. Where it is necessary to cease fire and provide guarantees of a truce. This proposal takes into account the positions of the republics. But Ukraine does not want to agree with this. Why? Because Poroshenko does not want peace in Donbass, but victory over Donbass. For him, the deployment of a UN peacekeeping mission throughout the region, right up to the Russian-Ukrainian border, is necessary to strangle the republics and destroy those who defend their civil rights with arms in hand. Including the right to speak Russian,” Chesnakov said.
According to him, the Donbass republics will never agree with this approach of Ukrainian politicians, not only with Poroshenko, but also “with those who come after him.”
The expert also noted that Ukraine was offered enough compromises both in the political and security spheres.
“So, at the Paris summit in 2015, the “Steinmeier formula” was developed, according to which the law on the special status of Donbass began to operate on a temporary basis after elections were held in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk, and on a permanent basis after the OSCE report. Russia persuaded the republics to agree to this formula. At the Berlin summit in 2016, Russia even agreed that the OSCE mission should be armed. But the OSCE itself was not ready. Therefore, a proposal arose for a UN contingent to guard the OSCE mission. If this proposal from Russia is rejected, then we should hardly expect new steps towards it from Moscow,” Chesnakov warned.
