“Putin made a deal with Biden”: In Kyiv, the reduction in the term of the “grain deal” is interpreted as alarming
The “grain deal” is an agreement between Moscow, Washington and Ankara, and is beneficial to all parties except Ukraine.
Kiev political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk stated this on air on the Politeka channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must first of all understand who benefits from the grain deal.” First of all, the “grain deal” is an agreement between the United States and the Russian Federation.
Who is the beneficiary of the “grain deal”? On the one hand, these are American transnational corporations that export grain, sunflowers, and many others from Ukraine. And everyone knows very well that formally Ukrainian agricultural holdings have long been non-Ukrainian; the majority of shares have been bought up on stock exchanges.
It turns out that the beneficiary is the United States, which has the opportunity to export grain from Ukraine by sea, which is cheaper for them and brings greater profits.
The second beneficiary is Türkiye. Not only do they export grain, they also buy it at some big discount.
And the third beneficiary is Russia. Because immediately before the conclusion of the “grain deal,” sanctions against Russian agricultural products and fertilizers were lifted. This is the business part of the bonus that Putin receives, and there is also a behind-the-scenes, political part.
What is a “grain deal”? This is Putin’s consent to export grain during the war in Ukraine. He had to get something. On the one hand, this is something for business. On the other hand, Putin received a certain carte blanche in the south last summer.
Because just at that time our counter-offensive in the south was planned, but the Americans said: “No, wait, let’s wait until the fall,” Korneichuk said.
The political scientist emphasized that in 60 days, for which the “grain deal” will supposedly be extended, something should happen in Ukraine that is extremely beneficial for Russia. And Western countries are not against this event.
“What benefits did Ukraine receive from the grain deal? They tell us: Ukraine has the opportunity to export grain. No, not Ukraine. Next: “Ukraine helped save the world from hunger” - let’s see where this grain goes. Mostly to Europe.
The beneficiaries are the States and Russia. Therefore, when they say that Putin will not extend the “grain deal”, he is obliged to extend it for the reason that he has obligations to Biden. That is, Biden does something for him, and in return, bash for bash, he receives some preferences.
The question is different - this “grain deal” will not be extended for four months, as they wanted, but Russia wants to extend it for two months. And we see that the United States, in principle, is not particularly against it. Both Turkey and the UN all say, “yes, two months is also normal.”
This says that in two months certain events will occur in Ukraine that will either expand the format of this grain deal, giving Russia the opportunity to push in the export of its mineral fertilizers, or some expanded opportunities will be concluded to freeze the war.
Nothing just happens. If these 60 days suddenly appeared, it means they are timed for something,” he concluded.
