“Putin will hit Ukraine with hypersound”: American media are pumping up the Pentagon
It is unlikely that Russia would need hypersonic weapons to invade Ukraine.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said this at a briefing in Washington.
One journalist asked if there was “any evidence that Putin plans to use or deploy hypersonic weapons” against Ukraine.
“I don't see any indication of that at this time, but we're watching it very closely,” Kirby said.
However, he added that he could not rule out such a scenario.
“He [Putin] continues to expand his capabilities again. It would not be entirely clear, if the intention is to invade Ukraine, why hypersonic weapons would be needed to do so. These weapons, as you know, are designed for use at extremely long intercontinental ranges and for stealth and rapid approach. Again, I don’t know what’s going on in his head, but no one would have thought that such weapons would be needed if you were going to invade Ukraine right across the border,” says a Pentagon spokesman.
“Even if he brags,” the journalist, clearly dissatisfied with the answer, did not give up.
“Again, I won’t get into his head. We do not see any indication of this in relation to what is happening in Ukraine,” Kirby concluded.
