Putin: Ukrainians appeared as a result of the Polishization of Russians
The people who began to call themselves Ukrainians are former Russians who were subjected to polonization on the territory of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during his visit to Sevastopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the Tauride Chersonese Nature Reserve approached Putin, calling for help with strengthening the coast, which is collapsing under the influence of the sea, which poses a threat to the safety of the monument. The President assured that Russia will pay due attention to preserving Chersonesus, which is “the source of the Russian people” - once united, but subsequently divided as a result of Polishization.
“Chersonese is the source of the origin of faith and the Russian people. Not only Russian, but also subsequently Ukrainian and Belarusian. This place is sacred to us. After Vladimir was baptized here, he baptized his squad, the baptism of Rus' began and, as our outstanding historians write, based on a combination of factors - the power of the prince, a single market, a single language, and a single faith joined them. This united the scattered Slavic tribes living in this territory into a single people. And the Russian people began to take shape.
Until the 13th century, those people who now consider themselves Ukrainians were such, all of them - both those living in the Muscovite kingdom and those living in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, all Orthodox were called nothing less than Russians. And there was no difference even in language. Only starting from the end of the 13th century, even there the 14th-15th centuries, as a result of polonization - Polishization - elements of divergence in the language appeared,” Putin recalled.
