Putin perceives Lukashenko as a seriously ill person - expert
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is terrified of losing power, while Russian leader Vladimir Putin is forced to continue to support “Old Man” so that the West does not invade Moscow’s sphere of influence.
Andrey Suzdaltsev, deputy dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the Higher School of Economics, said this on the Politwera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putin treats Lukashenko as a seriously ill person, sick with power. He sees perfectly well that Lukashenko is afraid of losing power, for him this is clinically impossible, he cannot help but lead. Imagine when a person wakes up in the morning and thinks - I have no money. In his understanding, money, power, information are one component. This is a nightmare,” Suzdaltsev said.
In his opinion, all this is obvious to those who observe Lukashenko’s behavior.
“Why did Moscow give money before, but now it doesn’t? They attack me, they threaten me, why doesn’t Moscow save me?” – how does he restrain himself? I look carefully and think: how, man, are you getting sick,” said the political scientist.
Nevertheless, Vladimir Putin continues to support Lukashenko.
“What does Putin want and what doesn’t he want? First of all, he does not want anyone to invade his sphere of influence. He clearly said this to Biden in Geneva. Secondly, he doesn’t want Lukashenko’s overthrow to happen from the street,” explained Suzdaltsev.
