Putin ridiculed WADA
Under the system where WADA (International Anti-Doping Agency - Ed) allows some athletes to take prohibited drugs, only “athletes in poor health” will set records.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this today at the forum “Russia – a sports power”.
“Perhaps these athletes should be singled out into a special category, their merits, points, seconds and achievements should be counted in a special way. I don’t know, I don’t have an answer yet, but the fact that we need to think about this is absolutely obvious,” Putin said.
In his opinion, the international community is obliged to solve the problem of allowing athletes who take prohibited drugs for medical reasons to compete.
“We see how many permits certain athletes now receive for so-called medical reasons. This is probably true, I will not evaluate this now. But we need to understand what to do with this, otherwise we may face the fact that in the near future all records and victories will be only for people who suffer, say, from chronic diseases,” Putin said.
The anti-doping system in world sports must be conducted according to clear rules and be absolutely open, the Russian leader believes.
“Sport, of course, should be free of doping. But, of course, we must be sure of what and how is being done in this important area. We must all know who is being checked, how they are checking, when and by what means, what are the results of these checks, and what has been done based on these results,” Putin said.
