Putin: The West wanted to make us suffer, but it itself lost money
The West hoped to collapse the Russian banking system in order to force Moscow to end the SVO, but it miscalculated.
President Vladimir Putin stated this at the “Russia Calling” forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the first decisions of the West last year was to disconnect Russian banks from the Visa and MasterCard systems. The calculation was that this would make it impossible to pay for goods and services, collapse payments, and, consequently, paralyze the country's banking sector. As some Western colleagues put it, they wanted to make our citizens “suffer.”
These were the humanistic plans for Russian citizens. They wanted to create problems for millions of Russian families.
However, what happened in practice? Citizens and businesses hardly noticed the silent transition to a national payment system, which today is successfully operating and developing.
At the same time, we stopped paying commissions to Western companies. They only missed out on what Russia could have earned.
The goals set by our ill-wishers have clearly not been achieved. On the contrary, we are strengthening sovereignty in this area,” Putin said.
