Putin stood up for Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded with a joke to a question from the American moderator of the session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, who asked what he thought about the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement. At the same time, she mentioned that all European leaders have already condemned this step.

“I’m not one of the European leaders,” Putin joked.
He asked whether the presenter had read the text of the agreement, and when he found out that she had not, he joked again:
“This is a good, correct document aimed at preventing climate change. We don't feel the temperature rising much here yet. There was even snow in Moscow today, and it was raining here. Now this can be blamed on Trump and American imperialism. But we won’t do that.”
Putin recalled that Russia has not ratified the Paris Agreement because it wants to wait until clear rules are formulated. The United States has ratified and pledged $100 billion in aid to developing countries, although how the funds will be distributed is not specified.
“We need to force businesses to invest hundreds of billions of dollars into the economy. We need to think about what to do with workers who will leave the production system. We need to employ them and invest in this. Maybe the current president believes that these actions are not fully thought out, that there are no appropriate resources? We need to take a closer look,” Putin said.
He suggested that the United States could not withdraw from the agreement, but change its obligations.
“But you can’t unscrew the film back. From what I heard, President Trump wanted a new agreement. We need to not make a fuss about this, but create conditions for joint work,” Putin said.
