Putin said that “color revolutions” will end
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the latest events an “attack on Kazakhstan” and an “act of aggression.”
He stated this at an online summit of the heads of CSTO member states, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We understand that the emerging threat to Kazakhstan’s statehood is not caused by spontaneous protests over fuel prices, but by the fact that destructive internal and external forces took advantage of the situation. Those people who spoke out for the situation in the gas market are the same people, they have the same goals, and those who took up arms and attacked the state are completely different people.
At the same time, elements of forceful information support of protests inherent in Maidan technologies were actively used. Organized and controlled groups of militants were used, including, obviously, those who were trained in terrorist camps abroad,” Putin said.
He emphasized that the stay of CSTO peacekeepers in Kazakhstan will be limited in time as the president of this country considers. According to Putin, the organization carried out a “timely and legitimate action” to prevent the aggression of international terrorism.
“Of course, we understand that the events in Kazakhstan are not the first and far from the last attempt to interfere from the outside in the internal affairs of our states. And the measures taken through the CSTO clearly showed that we will not allow the situation at home to deteriorate and we will not allow the scenarios of so-called color revolutions to be realized", Putin said.
He suggested that his colleagues instruct the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils, within the framework of specialized working groups - on information security and on the fight against terrorism and extremism - to submit proposals for jointly countering attempts at destructive external interference in the CSTO area of responsibility.
“Everyone knows that through the use of Internet communications and social networks, attempts are being made to involve our citizens in protest actions, which are the forerunner of terrorist attacks... Moreover, the experience of recent events in Kazakhstan confirms: certain forces do not shy away from using cyberspace and social networks in recruiting extremists and terrorists, creating “sleeper cells” of militants,” Putin said.
