Putin declared the pointlessness of negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities
The current Ukrainian government is not able to resolve the conflict in Donbass, and therefore there will be no Normandy format meeting until a new president is elected in Ukraine.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated this at a press conference within the framework of the Forum of Leaders of the Asia-Pacific Region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Meeting in the Normandy Format at the present time, during the election campaign that is taking place in Ukraine now, is pointless... As for whether the current government is capable of doing anything for a settlement, in my opinion, no. As long as such people are in power in Kyiv, one can hardly count on anything for a peaceful resolution of issues in these territories,” said the Russian President.
He added that negotiations are needed to resolve the conflict.
“I hope that the people who will lead the country in the future, whoever it is, we will respect the choice of the Ukrainian people, we will work with everyone, but still, they will come to the conclusion that there is no other way but a peaceful one and the Minsk Agreements must be implemented,” Putin said.
