Putin is asked not to drape the Lenin Mausoleum during the May 9 parade
Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov today published an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he calls for abandoning the drapery of the Mausoleum on Red Square during the Victory Parade this year.
The letter was published in the newspapers “Pravda” and “Soviet Russia,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At special moments it is not appropriate to hide its most important symbol. The drapery of the Lenin Mausoleum contains absolutely vicious symbolism. We should consider the celebration of Great Victory Day as the most important act of uniting the people. The meaning and content of this event are sacred. All its symbols are sacred. The shameful practice of disguising the Lenin Mausoleum is degradingly destructive and intolerable.
On May 9, 2023, the military parade on Red Square should carry special meanings aimed at the future. Participants in this parade deserve to hear a greeting from the podium of the Mausoleum of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Such a significant event would be a vivid symbol of our spiritual strength,” the letter says.
Russian State Duma deputy Dmitry Novikov called “not to cover the main witness of our historical victories and achievements with plywood shields.”
“It is no coincidence that when the Northern Military District began a little over a year ago, many guys on the front line raised, first of all, the proud red banner of the victorious fathers, those who broke the neck of German fascism and Japanese militarism. They understand well that this is the main symbol of our history and our great Victory, which embodies the thousand-year history of our Fatherland,” Novikov told reporters in parliament today.
Last year, 58 left-wing patriotic organizations in Russia also sent an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation, the Minister of Defense and the Security Council with a request not to block the Lenin Mausoleum on May 9, but it was not satisfied.
