Putin needs to jump higher than Crimea – Tretyakov
Russian President Vladimir Putin must do something during his last term that will surpass in its significance the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
Political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov stated this today on the Vesti FM radio station.
“The last term is the end of a long political career. This political career was very successful, no matter what anyone said. Such a successful career cannot end unsuccessfully. Otherwise, the last years may cancel out everything that came before. I formulated it this way: you can’t jump higher than Crimea, but you have to. It is impossible to do anything more for Russia than reunification with Crimea. But Putin needs to jump above this bar in the next six years,” Tretyakov said.
He suggested that Putin's new achievement will be related to the protection of Russians in the post-Soviet space.
“The most important task for Putin and the government will be to protect the rights of the Russian population in the post-Soviet space. In fact, in all post-Soviet countries, even those that we considered prosperous, Moscow pretended not to notice the soft pressure on the Russians. Now these problems have become actualized and intensified,” Tretyakov noted.
