Ukrainian air defense did not see the Russian missiles. Military airfield destroyed
As a result of a strike by the Russian Aerospace Forces, the military airfield in Lutsk was completely destroyed.
This was announced by the mayor of the city, Igor Polishchuk, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
On the night of March 11-12, four Russian missiles hit a military facility.
“It is difficult to say why these airstrikes were carried out, since our airfield was put out of action on February 24 during its first attacks. It was no longer suitable for functional use. Now the airfield has been finished off. It is completely destroyed. They ended up in a warehouse of fuels and lubricants,” the mayor noted.
He also added that people are not advised to evacuate - residential buildings are located a few hundred meters from the airfield. In addition, everything at the facility was destroyed, and there is no point in delivering new attacks on it.
There were no reports of military or civilian casualties.
At the same time, the Russian missiles were not noticed by Ukrainian surveillance systems - they could not be shot down and an air raid alert was not announced, as stated by the Chairman of the Volyn Military-Civil Administration Yuriy Pogulyayko.
“As the military reported, a cruise missile is a difficult target for air defense systems. Probably, the missile flew low above the ground and was not detected by radar, which is why the warning system did not work,” the official explained.
He emphasized that the air raid sirens went off only a few minutes after the explosions.
