Ukrainian air defense is unable to protect Kyiv and Lviv
Ukraine has nothing to cover its cities in case they are hit by a missile strike.
Kiev military expert Taras Chmut stated this on air on the Skrypin Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Chmut, the air defense that Ukraine has today is not even enough to cover Kyiv.
“The basis of the Ukrainian air defense forces are Soviet systems of the late 80s: the S-300 medium-range, as well as the short-range Buk M1. And several divisions of S-125... A cruise missile can be shot down even from a MANPADS or anti-aircraft gun, but to do this you need to identify it in time and know where to shoot. And this is its difficulty, because its flight profile is such that it flies at low altitudes, has a small reflective surface and is difficult to detect.
Plus, there are also certain tactics to use, and the Russians also understand how to do this. If we talk about ballistic missiles, then everything is much more complicated. In fact, with some probability they can only be intercepted from us by the S-300 B1 anti-aircraft missile system, of which we had as a result of the collapse of the Union, if I’m not mistaken, six or eight divisions, and today there are about two or three left alive . Before the war, they were taken off duty, they were planned to be written off in 13, then they began to be returned back and a certain number were introduced.
But we understand that three divisions, even conditionally four, are not even enough to cover Kyiv. Why shoot at Kiev, if you can still shoot at Kharkov, Dnepr, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Nikolaev, Kherson, Melitopol, Mariupol and other populated areas, Lvov is an ideological enemy city where these systems do not exist. If now this artificial populism with the “Iron Dome” or the American “Patriot” is just about the fact that we will pour in all our money and cover, for example, Kharkov, they will not shoot at it, because why? Or they will be some kind of expired Soviet ammunition so that we spend our expensive missiles, of which one hundred percent will not be enough, on the destruction of stupid decommissioned Soviet ammunition,” Chmut said.
