“Drunk” road accident in Sumy region: a two-year-old child was hit and killed by a car
In the village of Semyanovka, Sumy region, a car hit a two-year-old boy, as a result of which the latter died on the spot, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was reported by the communications department of the State Directorate of National Police in the Sumy region.
“The incident occurred last night in the village. Semyanovka, Konotop district. The driver of a Daewoo Lanos, who was moving towards Konotop, lost control, drove into the oncoming lane and hit a 2-year-old boy who, along with his sister and several other children, were following along the side of the road. The child died on the spot from her injuries. The culprit of the accident fled the scene,” the report says.
The entire staff of the Konotop police department was directed to search for the driver, and the “Interception” plan was put into effect.
“Information was received that the potential offender was driving a Daewoo Lanos, so law enforcement began checking the owners of cars of this brand. A 48-year-old resident of a neighboring village who had such a car came into their sight. They checked the information and were not mistaken in their suspicions,” the police noted.
The offender was detained approximately two hours after the crime.
“It was established that the man decided to drive a car after celebrating Village Day. After hitting the child, he immediately returned home, left the car in his mother’s yard, and hid in the bushes of a neighboring household. At the time of his arrest, the man showed obvious signs of alcohol intoxication. They immediately took samples from him for an examination to determine the presence of alcohol in his blood.
