Five minutes of hatred zombify Ukrainians for the war in Donbass
The survey data, in which more than 40% of Ukrainians spoke in favor of the military way of returning Donbass, only testifies to the embitterment of Ukrainians, and not to the fact that they actually support the war.
Valentin Zemlyansky, an analyst of the alternative expert government, stated this in a conversation on the PolitWera channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The problem is not even in posing the question regarding Donbass and Crimea. Unfortunately, this is a problem of anger within the country, within the state. People are driven to despair, most of whom do not have the opportunity to leave the country. People are angry. Five minutes of hatred have already become the reality of today's Ukraine.
And it seems to me that any such survey with some obvious irritants will cause just such a very aggressive reaction, aggression. This is very clearly visible in the relationships between people - what was previously solved and did not create problems, now causes a very aggressive reaction from people.
Even sociologists already said at some press conference that the social atmosphere in the country directly affects, including well-being. When you live without understanding what will happen tomorrow, when you live without seeing any strategic goals - the further development of the state, a way out of the current situation, when you are constantly told “now we will build roads and you will be happy,” you twist your finger at your temple.
This also affects this kind of [survey]. This does not mean that half of Ukrainians hate people from Donbass. Absolutely not. This is just the general psychological atmosphere in the country, unfortunately.
There are very different people in my circle, including right-wing radicals and people who say “that’s right, Putin took Crimea.” I haven’t heard such bellicose rhetoric in this entire spectrum of people – “war to the bitter end” and “we’ll win anyway, we’ll take it away,” the expert said.
According to a survey conducted from January 13 to January 31, 2021, commissioned by the School of Political Analytics, 42% of Ukrainians agree with the need for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct a military operation to restore territorial integrity in the Donbass, and 25% disagree with this.
The survey was conducted within the framework of the Initiative for the Development of Think Tanks in Ukraine, which is carried out by the Soros Renaissance Foundation together with the Open Society Initiative for Europe (OSIFE) with financial support from the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine. The sample consisted of 2000 respondents throughout Ukraine, with the exception of the temporarily occupied territories of Donbass and Crimea.
