This opinion was expressed in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana” by the director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Analysis and Management “Ruslan Bortnik.
“I give 40 to 60 that this bill will be passed. Initially, it was necessary to continue the law on the special status of Donbass for a year. And since then it has lost its technological role. There is no real desire to accept it. There is a desire to use this topic for PR,” the expert believes.
At the same time, he thinks that right-wing radicals will try to shake up the situation if the Rada does not pass the law.
“Because of this, power is in a certain fork. It can be accepted in the form that the committee approved - and significantly worsen the position of US Special Representative Kurt Volker at the meeting with Vladislav Surkov in January. Or not vote and receive criticism from right-wing radicals. That is, a battle of reason and PR will be going on in the heads of the deputies,” sums up Bortnik.
