The Rada was afraid to “de-occupy” Donbass
The Verkhovna Rada postponed voting on the bill “on the de-occupation of Donbass” for fear of running into criticism from the West and the risk of adopting amendments that were inconvenient for Poroshenko, which could include breaking diplomatic relations with Russia.

Political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, close to the presidential administration, stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a clear consequence of the intensification of the tactical struggle around this bill, as evidenced by the large number of amendments to it. They say there are fears that the text of the law that may be voted on will not correspond to the position of the president and may cause criticism from our Western partners. In particular, there are fears that deputies may support the amendment of deputies from the UKROP party on the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia as a result of the adoption of this law. “UKROP” is clearly fighting for leadership in the ideological niche of militant patriots and with its amendment it can break the moderate tone of this bill,” the expert writes.
“There are also supposedly certain disagreements regarding the finalization of this bill between the NF and the BPP. If this bill “freezes,” this will be yet another confirmation of the persistent freezing of the political and diplomatic situation around the resolution of the conflict in Donbass,” Fesenko believes.
