Rada will not let Lutsenko resign
The coalition does not support the resignation of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko.
“We, the pro-government coalition, do not support the resignation of Yuriy Lutsenko... Yuriy Vitalievich raised this question. I am now appealing to the chairman of the parliament to put (this issue - Ed.) to a vote, and we will see that the coalition does not give a vote on this,” said the first vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at a plenary session on Tuesday.
Let us remind you that the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko said that he submitted his resignation due to political PR surrounding the investigation into the murder of nationalist activist Ekaterina Handzyuk and the leveling of the work of law enforcement agencies in this case.
“So that there is no doubt that no one is holding on to power, today I submit my resignation to the President of Ukraine, and you in parliament should consider this issue. I ask you to do this this week,” Lutsenko said from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the prosecutor's office is headed by the prosecutor general, who is appointed and dismissed from office with the consent of the Verkhovna Rada by the president of Ukraine.
