This was announced by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“255 people’s deputies voted for the adoption of the law. The decision has been made,” Parubiy noted.
According to the Minister of Education and Science Liliya Grinevich, the main innovation of this bill is the recognition of the 1991 Law “On Education” as no longer in force and the introduction of training students according to the 12-year complete general secondary education program for primary and specialized secondary education from September 2018, for basic secondary education from September 1, 2022.
Complete secondary education will consist of primary education lasting 4 years, basic secondary education lasting 5 years, which is provided in a gymnasium, and specialized secondary education lasting 3 years, obtained in a lyceum or in vocational secondary education institutions.
Since its promulgation, this reform has become the object of severe criticism in the professional teaching environment. Basically, she was criticized for her deliberate course towards lowering educational standards inherited from the Soviet school.
Recall as previously reported by PolitNavigator, the Rada has not yet reached a consensus on how quickly to eliminate education in the languages of national minorities - immediately or gradually.
