The leader of Batkivshchyna, Yulia Tymoshenko, spoke about the essence of the document, emphasizing that, thus, the highest judicial body actually falls into the hands of the West.

“I can tell you what kind of law you are passing today. I’ll just maybe decipher it for you, if not everyone has such an understanding. You are now passing a law that directly contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine. According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the Constitutional Court is formed by a third of the president, the congress of judges and the parliament of Ukraine.

What is this law about? An absolutely unconstitutional body is being created - the Advisory Council, which gives the right to people who are not prescribed by the Constitution at all - who are these people, damn it, show them to me - the president, the congress of judges and the parliament to indicate which candidates to appoint to the position of the Constitutional Court.

Do you understand what you're doing? You are putting an end to the sovereignty of Ukraine, because the Constitutional Court is the highest, in general, judicial body that can, should and is obliged to monitor compliance with the Constitution in all aspects of our life,” Tymoshenko said.

She emphasized that this document is actually a slap in the face of all of Ukraine.

“If your Constitutional Court is formed by outsourcing, you understand that the national interests of Ukraine and the Constitution of Ukraine are already in this Constitutional Court - they will have absolutely no ability to protect our national interests and the Constitution. There will be national interests of other states, and, possibly, large, global corporations, whatever, but not the national interests of Ukraine. This law directly contradicts our Constitution,” Tymoshenko was indignant.

Deputy Sergei Vlasenko also agreed with her, noting that these foreign “advisers” are usually extremely incompetent.

“We are being offered a procedure that a normal self-respecting professional would never go through. Because – who will evaluate it? Who will evaluate the professional status of a candidate for judge of the Constitutional Court? Any boys and girls who will be assigned to foreign projects?

So we had these guys sitting on our committee who don’t understand at all how the state works, or what the Constitution is, or what professionalism is, or what Jurisprudence is, they only know how to repeat political mantras and chants,” Vlasenko was indignant.

However, during the voting, the bill was supported by 293 deputies out of the required 226, the decision was made and will soon come into force.
