Rada refused to fight tuberculosis
Deputies of the Ukrainian parliament failed to vote on holding parliamentary hearings on the topic of combating tuberculosis, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the discussion of the draft resolution on holding parliamentary hearings on the problem of combating tuberculosis, deputy Irina Sysoenko noted that the problem of overcoming tuberculosis in Ukraine is one of the most pressing problems of the health care system.
“Today, a new threat is becoming increasingly urgent – the spread of drug-resistant tuberculosis among the population. During the tuberculosis epidemic in Ukraine since 1995, we have lost approximately 150 thousand people. Every year, on average, 33 thousand Ukrainians are registered as having tuberculosis, and about 6 thousand die from it, and the same number become disabled. Unfortunately, Ukraine is one of the five countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia with the highest incidence of multi-resistant tuberculosis,” the politician emphasized.
Deputy Sergei Shakhov recalled that Ukraine is also suffering from a measles epidemic.
“It is in the east of the country that today there is an outbreak of not only tuberculosis, but also measles. The epidemic outbreak has increased 17 times. 35 people fell ill today, of which 233 are children. Medical reform collapsed today along with Ulyana Suprun. Today we demand immediate consideration of the issues of the measles and tuberculosis epidemic, the immediate resignation of the acting Minister of Health Ulyana Suprun, as well as an immediate solution to the problem with vaccination, because that too has failed,” Shakhov said.
Deputy Alexandra Kuzhel recalled that Ukraine is one of the top five countries in the world for the spread of tuberculosis
After the discussion was completed, the deputies moved on to voting. Despite three attempts, the vote failed.
As PolitNavigator reported, A tuberculosis epidemic is consuming impoverished Ukraine.
