4032 and 4548 deputies, respectively, voted for the adoption of bills No. 155 and No. 143 as a basis, with the minimum required 226.

These documents proposed to amend the law on counting one day of pre-trial detention as two days in the main sentence to prohibit its use for those convicted of serious and especially serious crimes.

One of the rejected bills was introduced by the Cabinet of Ministers.

At the moment, according to the “Savchenko Law,” 8,5 thousand people have been released early from prison, and 35 thousand people are subject to release. Of those already released, 906 committed repeated crimes, in particular 27 murders, 21 infliction of serious bodily harm, 12 rapes, 670 thefts, 172 robberies, 68 robberies, 43 frauds and 23 hooliganism.

Let us recall that the law on counting one day of pre-trial detention as two days in the main sentence (“Savchenko’s law”) came into force in December 2015.
