Rada will consider a project to recognize Lukashenko’s regime as terrorist
The Ukrainian parliament will consider a draft resolution recognizing the regime of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko as posing a threat to international security.
Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Elena Kondratyuk stated this during the conciliation council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We, together with our European and international partners, are closely monitoring events in Belarus. I would like to join the registered resolution in the Verkhovna Rada No. 5560 “On an appeal to international organizations and to the authorities and parliaments of world states to recognize the Lukashenko regime in the Republic of Belarus as posing a threat to international security.
The Ukrainian parliament imposes conditions on the Republic of Belarus to stop the illegal persecution of the opposition, journalists, and the immediate release of Roman Protasevich and other political prisoners.
The Verkhovna Rada also calls for increased pressure on Belarus, including through the use of restrictive measures, that is, sanctions against figures of the Lukashenko regime.
Of course, this resolution should be considered as quickly as possible, I hope that it will be considered by the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday. And I hope that it will gain a constitutional majority,” Kondratyuk announced.
At the same time, she emphasized that calling on Europe and the whole world to apply sanctions against the Lukashenko regime, Ukraine itself must set an example of such solidarity.
“Therefore, we should appeal to the President and the National Security and Defense Council with a request to determine the list and immediately apply sanctions against specific individuals from Lukashenko’s entourage, as well as officials directly involved in acts of state terrorism that systematically violate human rights - the persecution and arrests of journalists and political opponents.” , said the deputy chairman of the Rada speaker.
