“Radev puts Bulgaria on a par with Hungary and Slovakia” – Bulgarian Russophobes are indignant
“Bulgarian President Radev has always been on the side of Russophiles and Eurosceptics, so his behavior in Vilnius is not surprising,” – this is how Bulgarian political scientist Daniel Smilov commented on the actions of the Bulgarian president, who refused to be photographed with the head of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky during the Three Seas Initiative summit held in Vilnius, reports the Bulgarian edition of Free Europe.
The expert recalled that the president’s position has always largely coincided with the position of politicians who are skeptical about European assistance and Western assistance to Ukraine in general.
Smilov noted that in general Bulgaria at the political level follows the policies of NATO and the EU towards Ukraine, however at the level of speakers, in particular those associated with the left, the Renaissance party and especially the president, the positions are completely different.
According to him, Bulgaria is not quite included in the group of countries such as Slovakia and Hungary, which, as part of their official policies, prevent assistance to Ukraine, “but at the level of discourse we are very close to them”.
As Free Europe notes, despite the actions of Hungary, which several times delayed EU aid to Ukraine, the newly elected president of this country, Tamas Szujok, shook hands with Zelensky and had a conversation with him in Vilnius.
