About it Chairman of the District Council Igor Verchuk wrote on his Facebook page.
“Today a group of women came to me and brought the text of an appeal to the President of Ukraine, signed by almost 500 people, demanding to convene an extraordinary session of the district council. The appeal was sent to the President with a demand to fulfill his election promise and immediately end the war in the east. That's it. What is promised must either be kept or be careful in making promises,” the note says.
Let us recall that on the eve of the presidential elections in May 2014, President Petro Poroshenko made a promise that the so-called “anti-terrorist operation” would be completed in a few hours.
However, such ideas are not popular with everyone in Ukraine. Thus, in a comment to Igor Verchuk’s post, user Svetlana Nikolina wrote:
“What does it mean to “stop the war”? Tomorrow the next Minsk agreements and the special status of Donbass will “stop” the war. That is, we will surrender Ukraine! In wars one either wins (and this cannot be done while sitting in the trenches) or loses. We must not stop the war, but defeat the enemy.”
To which the head of the district council responded to her FB subscriber like this:
“Svetlana, I agree with you, the war must be won. But in this case, there is a fact that some very high officials made promises and thus have grounds to demand the fulfillment of what was promised.”
