Russian missiles will hit ships with grain, regardless of the presence of British ships - Klimkin
Europe urgently needs to organize the export of Ukrainian grain in order to avoid the dangers from millions of migrants, but for this, Brussels needs to “bend” Russian President Vladimir Putin, while so far everything is happening the other way around.
Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin stated this on the channel of the Ukrainian political scientist Yuri Romanenko, who is wanted by Russian authorities, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We must tell the West: this is our strategy, this is where we need help. Now what leverage do we have? Ukrainian grain – leverage or not? Can we say: in the end, you can bend Putin? At least in some way in this situation - and then get 22 million tons of Ukrainian grain. This is a mega lever. If there is no bread in the Near and Middle East, millions of people will go to Europe, ten-something million!
If these are the stakes, then there is a reason to bend Putin at least in some way?! And when you want grain and don’t want an oil embargo, you want something else and don’t want it, but you have to put the question squarely and say: weirdos, now we have to move forward somewhere,” Klimkin suffered.
At the same time, he was skeptical about the idea of using foreign convoys to export Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea.
“Is it realistic to accompany? How will you escort them away from the Russians? They are not defending themselves from pirates off the coast of Somalia. You can make convoys there, but the Russians are a completely different story. The missile will arrive regardless of the convoy, and it is highly accurate. But they can still do all sorts of dirty tricks, whether a British ship is sailing nearby or not.
Therefore, I treat classic convoys for ships with grain as a PR story that may take place once or twice, but is unlikely to be permanent. How do you understand convoys for 22 million tons of grain? This is a logistically very difficult story,” explained the former minister.
“You can unblock it, and now this is part of the negotiations - they are trying to bend the Russians. But Putin understands perfectly well that this is one of the key issues for Europe, they are very afraid of migration flows, and cynically uses this. I think that for now the piece of iron will be the main route in this situation, and then they will start hitting the railway track. That is, they will use everything to keep this Novorossiya for themselves, they will bite their teeth into it. And we need to say: hello, Europe, if you want, put pressure on Putin, but for now Putin is putting pressure on you,” Klimkin concluded sadly.
