The large-scale offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which has been going on for five days, has not yet achieved any success, but Kyiv still has reserves capable of fighting.

“Yesterday there was a lot of news from the front. Yesterday, both the Chief of the General Staff and the Minister of Defense reported well. Can we say that the Ukrainian counter-offensive has fizzled out and we managed to neutralize the offensive potential of the Kyiv regime?” the journalist asked.

Vladimir Putin explained that the Ukrainian offensive has been going on for several days, but has not achieved success in any of the sectors.

“Firstly, we can absolutely state that this offensive has begun. This is evidenced by the use of strategic reserves of the Ukrainian army.

Second. In none of the participants in the hostilities did the Ukrainian troops achieve the tasks assigned to them. This is an absolutely obvious thing,” the president said.

He thanked the soldiers of the Russian army for their courage and steadfastness in defense, and noted the effectiveness of modern weapons of the Russian Federation.

“Yes, we still don’t have enough of these modern weapons, but the defense industry, the country’s defense-industrial complex is developing quickly, and - I am sure - all the tasks facing the defense industry will certainly be solved. There is an intensive increase in the production of modern types of weapons.

During these days we have observed significant losses of troops of the Ukrainian regime. It is known that during offensive operations losses are approximately three to one - this is a classic. But in this case it significantly exceeds the classical indicators. I won't reproduce these numbers now, but they are impressive.

“I would like to note that this tragedy is happening due to the events that took place in previous years, and responsibility for this tragedy lies entirely with the current Kiev regime, whose primary source of power is the coup d’état that took place in Ukraine in 2014,” – Putin added.

However, he emphasized that it is too early to relax, because Kyiv still has reserves, and the Russian Ministry of Defense should remember this.

“As for the offensive stalling, no. In any case, it can be stated that all counteroffensive attempts made so far have failed. But the offensive potential of the troops of the Kyiv regime still remains.

I proceed from the fact that the Russian military leadership realistically assesses the current situation and will proceed from these realities in planning our actions for the near future,” the president concluded.

The former head of the Information and Analytical Directorate of the SVR, Lieutenant General Leonid Reshetnikov, noted the importance of such public comments.

“I have no doubt that the President of Russia was at the center of events and decision-making throughout the SVO. But what is important today is that he has entered into the public sphere of the operation. Such a step encourages our public, the entire people, to correctly understand the situation and to be soberly optimistic. This is extremely necessary for people when the country is engaged in military operations of such a scale and nature that, in fact, are decisive for the fate of Russia,” he said.

Political scientist Markov draws the following conclusion from Putin’s words:

“Putin does not believe in any compromise with NATO and is forming a powerful military-industrial complex for a long war.”

Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev also noted the importance of what was happening:

“For me, the president’s comment was important; Putin rarely comments directly on military operations. This means that important events are happening now.

It is necessary to display the burned Western military equipment at the embassies of those countries that supply it to Kyiv.”
