If earlier Ukraine was divided into two parts, then after the victory of the Maidan and the declared desire to join the European Union, the country was divided into three pieces. Political scientist Arayik Stepanyan stated this on the talk show “Meeting Place”.

According to him, today only the west of the country, where there are no ethnic Ukrainians, is eager to join the EU.

“Ukraine is already divided into three parts - Novorossiya, Hetmanate (central Ukraine) and Western. They have different mentalities. In Western Ukraine there are no Ukrainians at all - they are Poles, Austrians, and Hungarians. And they want to unfasten this Ukraine to Europe, but neither the Hetmanate nor Novorossiya wants this,” Stepanyan said.
