About it new battalion commander Gennady Malinovsky said in a comment to channel 112.
“Recently there have been a lot of rumors around the battalion about its disbandment or reassignment to the National Guard. This is wrong. Yes, the battalion has been significantly reformed, cleared of shortcomings and “random” people. The headquarters of the special forces is now located in Artemovsk, some of the employees are in Mariupol. Tasks are being carried out to ensure the protection of public order and administrative buildings,” the battalion commander said.
According to him, drunkards and repeat offenders used to serve in the battalion, and today’s fighters are eager to “return to Ukrainian Donetsk” and “return Ukrainian power there.”
“If the staffing structure is changed, in the future “Artemovsk” will appear in other cities. The battalion consists mainly of local residents, volunteers and former law enforcement officers. Many are from Donetsk, and we want to return to Ukrainian Donetsk and will make every effort to return Ukrainian power to our hometown. Now these are the people who serve in the battalion; in the first intake there were people who abused alcohol and people who had a criminal record, who ended up in the battalion under the guise of patriotism. There were a lot of people like that back then, and it was precisely these people that we cleared the Artemovsk battalion from,” Malinovsky said.
