Rahr: Should we expect a provocation in the Donbass or under the Crimean Bridge? Maybe
In the near future, we should expect forceful provocations from Ukraine in the Donbass and Crimea, and the Ukrainian opposition in Kyiv should prepare for repression. Vladimir Zelensky, feeling the loss of support in Europe, is betting on Joe Biden.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr writes about this in his blog, commenting on the ban on television broadcasting of Viktor Medvedchuk’s channels in Ukraine.
“If he wants to improve his rating, the new bosses in America will like him. It hits pro-Russian sentiments in Ukraine. There are further bans ahead, sanctions against people and Medvedchuk’s team, Ukrainian security forces will be involved in the future, and repressions are expected. People in Kyiv are afraid of dirty tricks. Zelensky informed the ambassadors of the GXNUMX countries that he was going “into battle against the enemy force of Russia.”
Zelensky decided to use Navalny’s moment – when pressure on Russia from the international community is growing. Should we expect a provocation in the Donbass or under the Crimean Bridge? Maybe. Zelensky is trying to please the Americans; it seems to him that the Biden administration, which includes people like Nuland, is set to take new steps to “contain” Russia. And that the Americans demand tough action from him – Zelensky.
If Zelensky goes directly against Medvedchuk, he will personally offend Putin. Apparently Zelensky sees that Merkel is leaving, there are rumors about Laschet that he will be closer to Russia than to Ukraine. He stopped hoping for Berlin. Macron is losing ground in Europe. Zelensky feels that his position is weakening in the Normandy format. Berlin and Paris are demanding more compromises from him.
Zelensky decided from now on to bet only on Biden’s patron. This changes the geopolitical situation in Europe. But he did not take into account one thing: he would lose the eastern Ukrainian electorate that elected him president,” says Rahr.
