The hope of overthrowing the Nazis did not materialize: Ukraine is heading towards dictatorship
The expectation that the residents of Ukraine, faced with a sharp deterioration in the economic situation, would overthrow the nationalist regime did not materialize. The former Soviet republic, on the contrary, is moving towards an anti-Russian dictatorship.
This opinion was reached in Moscow during a press conference on the topic: “5 years of Euromaidan - causes, consequences, alternatives,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Ukraine has slipped to the position of the poorest state in Europe. The economy is destroyed. Now the main export items, with the exception of grain, oil and the rest, are the Carpathian forests, the deforestation of which is already leading to an environmental disaster, smuggling of amber, cigarettes, smuggling of weapons and labor.
Everything seems to be so, but it’s not. In our forecasts we thought that this would be fatal for the regime, that the people would somehow rise up, that something would happen, but no. Now, five years later, this regime, despite the fact that the people are impoverished, in poverty and despair, is quite stable,” said Iskander Khisamov, head of the Ukraina.Ru publication.
State Duma deputy Rifat Shaikhutdinov predicts that Ukraine will face an even greater strengthening of nationalist dictatorship.
“The result is exactly the opposite of what those who went to the Maidan were counting on. As a result, of course, they issue visa-free travel, but from an economic point of view, it also led to a negative result, because the working-age population leaves for Europe, Russia, and so on, and therefore this is an outflow of the working-age population from Ukraine. From an economic point of view, there is a significant decline in both living standards and GDP, and this is understandable. Because a country that built its entire economy on neighboring countries, on the fact that these were joint united markets with the countries of the former USSR, today one of the main subjects of economic relations was Russia, today this has been destroyed.
What's the prospect? Only one: strengthen the dictatorship. Therefore, I think that when some make a forecast that the dictatorship will intensify, the pressure and fear of the people that drives them will intensify, because some such events await us,” the deputy noted.
