The Ukrainian paratrooper who appeared with an SS chevron in front of Poroshenko repented
After a scandal in social networks and the media, a paratrooper of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who last week was photographed next to President Petro Poroshenko wearing the “Totenkopf” chevron of the SS Panzer Division, repented of his action and stated that he did not know about its origin.
A video recording of the Ukrainian military’s explanations was published on the blog of the Air Assault Forces Command, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the paratrooper, he thought that the skull and crossbones depicted on the chevron meant a pirate symbol, which is why he stuck it on.
“I want to apologize for my use of a chevron similar to that used by Nazi units. I want to emphasize that I use it due to unconsciousness, considering it a kind of pirate flag. I admit my mistake and am ready to take responsibility for it,” the military man said.

Let us recall that the SS tank division “Totenkopf” was formed on the basis of the “Totenkopf” detachments, an SS unit responsible for guarding concentration camps.
