Highly praised electric cars turned out to be twice as harmful as gasoline ones
Electric cars, which are considered to be an environmentally friendly mode of transport, are in fact a serious source of environmental pollution.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Alexander Losev, a member of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, answering a question about his attitude towards electric cars.
“It’s really clean on the road and there’s almost no emissions in the city. But for this purity in one place you have to pay with huge pollution in another. It has long been obvious to scientists that the production of electric vehicle batteries causes irreparable damage to the ecology of the planet - millions of tons of waste rock and liquid acid waste, the annual destruction of thousands of hectares of forests, water shortages and toxic waste pollution of vast areas in Central Africa, Latin America and China,” - Losev said.
According to him, if you take into account all the carbon dioxide emissions from the production of electric vehicles themselves and their operation and compare these figures with the most recent indicators of a gasoline car, then “it turns out that an electric car is twice as dirty as a conventional one.”
“There are already about 1,2 billion of these machines running around the planet, and very soon there will be 1,5 billion. To convert this entire armada to electricity, it is necessary to almost triple the global electricity generation. And imagine how much additional carbon dioxide will be released into the atmosphere.
Thus, the transition to supposedly clean “green” energy and electric vehicles will have the opposite effect: it will require generating more and more energy at conventional thermal power plants and will increase air pollution,” Losev concluded.
