The schism will heal the death of Bartholomew
It is impossible to overcome the split between the Russian Orthodox Church and Constantinople due to the latter’s legalization of schismatics in the near future.
This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Izvestia by the rector of the Church of the Martyr Tatiana at Moscow State University, Archpriest Vladimir Vigilyansky.
He recalled that in past centuries there had already been many attempts at such a split, in particular two unions that Constantinople accepted - the Council of Lyon in the XNUMXth century and the Council of Ferrara-Florence in the XNUMXth century.
“But then the schism was healed. They repented of this and returned back. During the lifetime of Patriarch Bartholomew, I think there are no such chances, but as soon as he passes away, I think everything will return to normal. This has to do with both his personality and the political context. His connection with America is known; in Turkey for decades he relied on the support of American presidents. Everything that happens is connected with big geopolitics,” Vigilyansky said.
As PolitNavigator reported, Bartholomew may be expelled from Turkey.
