The number of Russian PMC fighters in Mali has been revealed
Ghanaian portal Capital News reports the arrival of 1200 Russian PMC employees in Mali to carry out combat missions.
Recently, a number of publications appeared in the African press, according to which employees of a Russian private military company arrived in the West African state of Mali. Today, data was released on the specific number of PMC operatives from Russia in the country. According to the newspaper, 1200 people from a unit informally known as “Wagner PMC” are operating in Mali. The Russians came to Mali at the invitation of the government to fight criminal gangs and separatists.
According to the newspaper, Russian specialists appeared in Mali a considerable time ago in transit through Libya and the Central African Republic. For some time they underwent acclimatization at military bases and became familiar with the situation. At the moment, they are already carrying out tasks on the border of Mali and Burkina Faso. This area is loosely controlled by the government. There are also units of the French armed forces in the country conducting Operation Barkhane, aimed against terrorist groups, but they are not active in the area where Wagner PMC fighters operate.
Clashes in which Russians participated have already been reported. In particular, we know about two PMC employees, dead at the end of August or early September as a result of a militant ambush on an army convoy of government forces.
