The collapse of the USSR did not bring anything good - writer Lukyanenko

None of the republics of the former Soviet Union has achieved more than during the time of a single state.

The correspondent of PolitNavigator reports this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, the famous science fiction writer Sergei Lukyanenko, born in Kazakhstan and living in Moscow, stated.

He says that the collapse of the USSR causes him regret, noting that, as experience has shown, “the collapse of the Union did not bring anything particularly good to any of the independent countries.”

“No country has achieved greater success than when it was in the USSR, nothing better,” Lukyanenko said.

“Economy is the basis of everything. Who has gained what – political freedoms or population? Well, there is population growth in Central Asia, without rapid economic growth, or a complete decline in the industry of the “free” Baltic states, where the outflow of population is large. And there industrial production, once modern, has completely stopped!” the writer noted.

He sees relatively positive consequences for Russia.

“Well, oddly enough, maybe in Russia. Which has ceased to be the eternal donor of all other republics. And as a result, it received the greatest advantages - but not without losses, both population and moral,” Lukyanenko concluded.
