The new Constitution proposed by Poroshenko has no chance of being adopted by the Rada if it contains even a hint of a special status for Donbass.

Leads to this conclusion a survey of Ukrainian people’s deputies, representing different factions of the Verkhovna Rada, conducted by the website “Ostrov” regarding how they feel about the idea of enshrining in the Constitution the special status of the DPR and LPR.

Sergei Taruta:

– Expanded powers should be given to all regions, and not just Donbass. Although here, too, there is a debate within the framework of the challenge and war that is now taking place, whether it is necessary or not to transfer powers. I believe that powers should be transferred to territorial communities.

Egor Firsov, “Petro Poroshenko Bloc”:

– The situation is very strange and incomprehensible to me. We must vote for changes to the Constitution tomorrow, the president essentially stated this. But there is still no text for the changes. This is not normal... I don’t know whether there will be a special status in the Constitution, even officials in the Presidential Administration - some say that there will be, others that there will not. I am personally against the special status of Donbass.

At the level of the Constitution, a number of articles on the special status of Donbass may be introduced; such rumors are circulating and they are quite real. Personally, I am against them. My question is: why do this?

On the one hand, local councils and parliament make decisions that these territories are temporarily occupied, the DPR and LPR are terrorist organizations, Russia is the aggressor, and here, it turns out, we take a decision at the level of the Constitution, at the level of the Bible of Ukrainian politics that this territory has a special status because people demand some special powers. This is completely incomprehensible to me. I don’t see any arguments from the Presidential Administration.

Sergei Sobolev, “Fatherland”:

– What could be the expansion of the powers of the occupied territories? This is complete absurdity, but let's see how it will be spelled out in the Constitution of Ukraine.

Borislav Bereza:

– For now, this is only a theory and it is not a fact that this will happen in practice. As soon as we talk about the special status of Donbass, we understand that we are talking about the empire of Rinat Akhmetov, which we actually legitimize. We must understand what happens next: we transfer the territory under the influence of the oligarch, or we still restore Ukraine on this territory. Therefore, I don’t like the idea of a special status for Donbass, when for our money we will actually raise the economy of a certain financial and political group.
I will be against this if it is in the Constitution. Ukraine is a unitary state, we are not a federation, so let us not integrate into Ukraine those things that Russia wants, we will go our own way.”

Dmitry Storozhuk, “People's Front”:

– I have a negative attitude towards this. We are saying that Ukraine is integral, its territorial structure is the same for everyone, and we do not have privileges for this or that region. In the same way, they cannot exist in relation to Donbass. Today we have a peace process - these are the Minsk agreements, according to which elections in Donbass can only be held after we close the border, imprison all the terrorists, and it is the residents of Donbass who will take part in the elections, and not the deported Cossack women. If we give them the opportunity to hold elections today, then we know how they will be held - at gunpoint and at gunpoint, and I doubt that this will really be the choice of Donbass. Introducing any special status into the Constitution is unacceptable.”

Igor Mosiychuk, “Lyashko Radical Party”:

– The faction of the “Radical Party”, of which I am a member, insists on the exclusion of these norms, otherwise we will not vote for changes to the Constitution. The radical party was against the Minsk agreements, we are now in favor of their abolition. When they tell us that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements, then this is a lie - in fact, the Minsk agreements gave us only dead and wounded, the surrender of territories and nothing more. Stop exposing yourself to the enemy, stop flirting with them. The time has already come to talk about the liberation of territories.
