Since the EU and NATO member countries cannot achieve sovereignty and go against the will of Washington, Moscow needs to take advantage of the developments of the Soviet Union and continue to build relations with states that are not part of the “Western coalition.”

Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov stated this during a meeting in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“In a latent form, there (in the West - approx.) there is quite deep opposition to the course that is now being pursued by the Western alliance. Only Hungary expresses this openly, but what Orbán says is actually shared by many people in Europe as well.

Another thing is that this opposition has no political continuation. Now a new government has come in Italy, I know some members of this government, and their views do not fully correspond to what is being promoted in the Western alliance. But they cannot afford to take these positions. Now there seems to be a kind of taboo on supporting Russia in the Western world,” the senator said.

He emphasized that in this situation, the Russian Federation should rely on states that are not members of the Western bloc countries, especially since they have been friendly to Moscow since the times of the USSR.

“Therefore, our main task now is to strengthen our information presence and influence in the non-Western world. It is becoming increasingly important from the point of view of the world order that is now being formed. And there we have objectively quite good opportunities to strengthen our positions.

I will name several parameters. This is the fact that we have always been opponents of colonialism and helped these countries liberate. This is well remembered in Egypt, for which we saved the Suez Canal when in 1956 England and France wanted to seize it with the participation of Israel.

We helped India, we helped many countries. And this historical memory remains, it continues to matter. We continue to advocate for the sovereignty of these states, for their higher role in a multipolar world, for their greater presence in international organizations,” Pushkov added.

The senator noted that Moscow should continue the successful international policy that it has pursued so far.

“And it’s taking its toll. There has been a change of power in Brazil. But the policy in the section towards Russia does not change at all - this includes work in BRICS, and support for good bilateral relations, and refusal to support the policy of sanctions. We see complete continuity of policy – regardless of the change of government.

I would venture to suggest that we can expect the same from South Africa and India. So, it is a very powerful factor that, unlike the colonial powers, we have always been supporters of the independence and sovereignty of these countries,” he concluded.
