“In times of upheaval, sociology is not always correct,” emphasized Kost Bondarenko, director of the Ukrainian Politics Foundation. – The paradox is that 64 percent of our population supports peace, but the majority of them are ready to support the “party of war.” That is, the relationship between public sentiment and political sympathies is not entirely balanced. And the task of this election campaign is to restore balance in public sentiment, so that people who advocate peace today will place their bets on the “peace party.”
At the same time, the director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, Mikhail Pogrebinsky, is confident that the result of this election campaign will be the victory of the “party of war,” but does not exclude a decrease in the degree of radicalism among those who today rely on war.
“The war party” will, of course, be more numerous in parliament, but I would note that we really have few convinced supporters of “war to the last Ukrainian,” Pogrebinsky noted. – We have a lot of people who simply play the role of military guys. These players are on stage for other, non-military interests. I have no doubt that the majority of the “war party” will join. But depending on the situation, they will “recolor” themselves, if not as supporters of peace, then as moderate supporters.”
