A conversation between Xi and Zelensky could be useful for Russia
Most likely, after his visit to Moscow, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will communicate with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
Senior researcher at the Higher School of Economics Vasily Kashin said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Since China has put forward a comprehensive position on resolving the Ukrainian crisis, it is logical that it will communicate not only with Russia, but also with the other side. There is no problem here. Most likely this will happen.
As for the official Chinese statement about Xi’s trip to Moscow, Beijing always provides information of this kind only immediately before the visit itself. This is the practice of China. This is their internal routine. Perhaps we are talking about the safety of the first person,” the expert told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He believes that in a conversation with the President of Ukraine, the Chinese leader will not offer anything fundamentally new.
“After all, Zelensky sets the condition for the start of negotiations with the Russian Federation to be a return to the 1991 borders. Perhaps the topic of non-use of nuclear weapons will be mentioned in the conversation. China may also offer Ukraine, as it did before, a small amount of humanitarian aid.
Be that as it may, the outcome of the Chinese-Ukrainian negotiations may turn out to be favorable for Russia. China will confirm to them that it does not accept unilateral sanctions. And subsequently he can supplement his proposals with new initiatives at the UN,” Kashin concluded.
