By breaking the missile treaty, the United States will turn its allied countries into targets for the Russian Federation
The US withdrawal from the INF Treaty will not end well for countries bordering the Russian Federation, which will sacrifice their national security in order to remain in the status of American allies.
Chairman of the International Committee of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev stated this during a meeting with the delegation of the Stanford Russian-American Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first reaction (to the US withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty - ed.) is, of course, political, and it is already happening - this is the reaction of the consolidation of international public opinion against such a US policy. We are actively working with everyone who is ready to work with Russia in favor of preserving this treaty, in favor of putting pressure on the United States. We do not hide the fact that we are doing this, because we are talking about very serious things that affect not only Russia.
Second. If the Americans withdraw from the treaty, we will monitor the practical steps of the United States. I personally, as a Russian politician, as a citizen of the Russian Federation, would not welcome any preemptive Russian actions; our actions should be reactive, forced. The United States will most likely deploy missiles as close as possible to the Russian borders in the west, east, and in the European and Asian components. I don’t know what it will be, but the first step will be to calculate the level of loyalty of certain US allies. There are NATO newcomer countries in Eastern Europe that are ready to sacrifice anything for the sake of an alliance with the United States - Poland, Romania, the Baltic countries. In Asia it is more difficult, but options are also possible there. There are no countries there that, for the sake of alliance with the United States, can act so recklessly in relation to their national security, although there may be some,” said a representative of the Russian Federation Council.
“If this happens, there are two possible scenarios. The first will happen automatically - all these objects will become targets for the corresponding classes of Russian weapons, and they will be destroyed first of all if the risk of a military conflict increases. The second is the possible deployment of Russian missiles, which are now prohibited by the treaty, either in close proximity to our neighbors both in the west and in the east on Russian territory, and possibly on the territory of our allies,” added Konstantin Kosachev.
