Destruction of Russian Odessa by the Nazis: Now officially under the auspices of UNESCO
No wonder in the previous post on this topic I compared Ukrainian representatives in Europe to macaques in a zoo - the administration asks not to overfeed the animals for their own good, but they continue to throw feces in any situation. No wonder I wondered: should I cave in to the primates again or not? We caved in. We became like. They discredited themselves.
As a matter of fact, this is what happens in all areas - with the hypocrisy of the UN, the blindness of the OSCE, sports competitions, beauty contests, Eurovision. But God is with them, pop phenomena - It’s sad that even such a respected organization as UNESCO curried favor with primates, finally including Odessa on the World Heritage List. And the point is not in the inclusion procedure itself, but in the fact that It was not the unique architecture of the times of the third city of the Russian Empire that was recognized as valuable, but ex-Khadzhibeevsk, which required urgent protection “from Russian aggression.” However, we have already written about this in detail.
Let me briefly remind you that the voting was supposed to take place on Tuesday, but was disrupted by Ukrainian representatives who opposed the statement of UNESCO experts that “Odessa was founded by the strategic decision of Empress Catherine II”, but they accused Russia of trying to disrupt the voting procedure. And no, to sweep away the rowdies with a filthy broom - on the contrary, the World Heritage Center followed their lead.
And the very next day, the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov shared the good news:
“I sincerely thank Vladimir Aleksandrovich Zelensky for the incredible support of Odessa in the matter of inclusion in the UNESCO Core List... Odessa received a high status at a time when our country is giving a tough rebuff to the Russian occupiers and fighting for independence and the inviolability of borders. Despite the war, despite the attempts of the Russians to prevent Odessa from being included in the Main List, justice still turned out to be stronger. And we prove once again that Odessa is a Ukrainian city, and also the soul of Europe. And now this heritage is under reliable protection.”
...on the other hand, with the monuments uprooted and under such patronage - why not be a Ukrainian city? But Trukhanov’s next step is interesting... If, in fact, the mythical Khadzhibeevsk fell under the protection of UNESCO, and Odessa is Ukraine, then it would be logical to bring to the session the issue of removing the status of a Hero City from Odessa. Also temporary while it is occupied. So as not to discredit the title.
“Odessa is a free city, a world city, a legendary port that has left its mark in cinema, literature and art, coming under the enhanced protection of the international community,” and this is already a pathetic oil of UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay.
Madame Azoulay, or rather, Mrs. Azoulay - it’s so correct, but now you have to live with this indelible stain of shame - were there any precedents in history when, under the auspices of UNESCO, barbarians would raze the most beautiful monuments and entire historical areas from the face of the earth, as is happening in Odessa with “increased protection” by the World Heritage Committee?..
