The rupture of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation will come back to haunt Kyiv in the Donbass
By severing diplomatic relations with Russia, Ukraine will accelerate Russia’s official recognition of the Donbass republics.
Director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies Sergei Tolstov stated this today at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I can assume that in the event of a severance of diplomatic relations, very serious pressure will be put on Putin to officially recognize the LPR and DPR, as happened with Abkhazia and South Ossetia after the severance of diplomatic relations with Georgia,” Tolstov said.
He believes that the Minsk agreements may be broken this year, since in the conditions of elections the Verkhovna Rada will not be able to extend the law on the special status.
The expert also did not rule out that Russia could completely block the passage to the Sea of Azov.
“You need to understand that not a single ship that the Russian border service wants to let through will pass through the Kerch Strait... If they want to stop trade communications with Mariupol and Berdyansk, they will simply close it,” the political scientist concluded.
