They are trying to save Yanukovych’s collapsing case by buying judges
Judge Vladislav Devyatko, who presided over the high treason case of ousted President Viktor Yanukovych in the Obolonsky Court of Kyiv, may be appointed to the post of Chairman of the Court of Appeal of Kyiv after the completion of the trial.
The Kiev resource “Glavkom” reports this, citing a source in the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“They are indeed talking about Devyatko’s appointment to the Kyiv Court of Appeal. This is supposedly the essence of the agreements between him and those who have long been waiting for a guilty verdict against Yanukovych. But Devyatko is an experienced judge and does not really force the process, because he is strategically interested in providing him with some kind of framework of legality and impartiality. Now, as they say, there is a deadline for passing a verdict - before the anniversary of the start of the Maidan, that is, in November. And then at the beginning of 2019 he can lead the “Kyiv appeal,” the source said.
The source also added that previously a position of chairman in the new Podolsk District Court of Kyiv was allegedly being prepared for Devyatko, but the situation has changed and a higher post has been prepared for him.
In addition, earlier the High Qualification Commission of Judges admitted Maxim Titov, judge of the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv, who is part of the panel of judges to consider the case, to the Supreme Court.
Also, as previously reported by the media, back in August a draft sentence for Yanukovych was made public, in which the court would sentence him to 15 years with confiscation of property. Allegedly, the draft verdict was agreed upon between the Obolonsky court, the GPU and the presidential administration. Later, information about the planned sentence of 15 years with confiscation was confirmed in the official position of the GPU within the framework of the trial.
As PolitNavigator reported, the trial of Yanukovych turns into his rehabilitation.
